Accessing the Editor
1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard
2. Navigate to “Posts” in the left sidebar
3. Click “Add New” to create a new post
Creating a New Post
Step 1: Add a Title
Enter your post title in the field at the top of the editor. Make it concise and descriptive.
Step 2: Write Your Content
Type or paste your content into the main text area below the title.
Step 3: Formatting Your Content
Basic Formatting
– Use the toolbar buttons to apply formatting:
– Bold: Select text and click the “B” button
– Italic: Use the “I” button
– Underline: Click the “U” button
– Strikethrough: Use the button with a strikethrough “S”
Headings and Paragraphs
– Use the “Paragraph” dropdown to select heading levels (H2, H3, etc.) for structuring your content
Lists
– Create bullet points using the bulleted list button
– For numbered lists, use the numbered list button
Alignment
– Align text left, center, or right using the alignment buttons
Links
– Highlight text, click the link button, and enter the URL
Blockquotes
– Use the quotation mark button to create indented quotes
Step 4: Adding Media
1. Click the “Add Media” button above the editor
2. Upload new files or select from the media library
3. Choose image size and alignment
4. Click “Insert into post”
Step 5: Categories and Tags
1. In the right sidebar, find the “Categories” box
2. Select relevant categories. (Do not “add new” categories to the ones provided)
3. Below categories, add tags in the “Tags” box
Step 6: Featured Image
1. Scroll down to the “Featured Image” box in the bottom of the right sidebar
2. Click “Set featured image”
3. Upload or select an image
4. Click “Set featured image” to confirm
Managing Your Post
Saving and Previewing
– Click “Save Draft” to save your work without publishing
– Use “Preview” to see how your post will look on the site
Publishing
1. Review your post for errors and click the “Publish” button on the top right, to publish.
2. You can also set publishing options in the “Publish” box:
– Schedule the post for later by clicking “Edit” next to “Publish immediately” and choose desired publish date and time.
– Change post visibility (public, private, password protected)
3. Click “Publish” when ready to make the post live
Editing Published Posts
1. Go to “Posts” in the dashboard
2. Find your post and click “Edit”
3. Make changes in the Classic Editor
4. Click “Update” to save changes
Best Practices:
1. Use clear, engaging headlines that reflect the content
2. Structure your posts with subheadings (H2, H3) for readability
3. Include relevant images to break up text and illustrate points
4. Use categories and tags consistently to organize content (no more than 5 tags)
5. Proofread carefully before publishing
6. Optimize for SEO by including relevant keywords naturally in your content
7. Use the “Preview” function to ensure proper formatting before publishing
